Summary Review: 1.5 Stars (out of 5)

Built as a very nice Eagle scout project by Sean Antosiak and maintained by the City of Clayton, many reviewers harp on the flaws of Eagle Creek Disc Golf Course, so I wanted to start with some things I like about the course.  First, I appreciate the fact this course exists.  This course is the only disc golf course in Rabun County and the only public disc golf course within a 25 mile radius of Clayton.  Also, the hills to the north and the flowing creek on the course's south border give the course some scenic value.  Unfortunately, it does not have a lot of disc golf value.  The land is completely flat.  While I could see that the designer tried to use the creek and some widely scattered trees as obstacles, the fact remains that this plot of land offers very little to work with.  Most holes play across a wide open mowed-grass field.  Also, hole #3 was destroyed by the construction of the Old School Garden, and hole #2 had no basket on my visit due to some more recent construction.  Normally you would consider what you already have when thinking about building new things, but apparently the City of Clayton forgot to do that in this case.  Overall, this is a nice course for local recreational players, and I had a pleasant half-round here.  That said, this course has little appeal to experienced disc golfers or to players from out-of-town.

Hole-by-Hole Review

Distances taken from dgcoursereview.com; link provided above.  Picture sequence for each hole is 1) tee, 2) approach, 3) basket to tee.

Hole #1: 295 feet, par 3
Comments: an almost completely open hole with only 2 large trees near the basket.  Loosen up that arm and let one fly!  #2 tee is to the right.  #4 tee is in the back right corner of the property along the creek.

Hole #2:  (this hole was not playable on my visit due to construction)

Hole #3: (this hole was destroyed by the construction of the Old School Garden)

Hole #4: 246 feet, par 3
Comments: this hole plays east along the south boundary of the course with the creek on the right.  The creek is far enough away that it would take a bad throw to reach it, but it has steep banks.  You could definitely lose a disc in the creek if it has enough water.  A couple of small trees also need to be negotiated.  #5 tee is behind the basket.

Hole #5: 238 feet, par 3
Comments: very similar to hole #1 but plays in the opposite direction.  A single large tree guards the left side of the basket.  #6 tee is to the right.

Hole #6: 190 feet, par 3
Comments: very similar to the previous hole but plays in the opposite direction.  The basket sits in a cluster of small trees only feet in front of the creek, so don't overshoot.  #7 tee is to the left.

Hole #7: 514 feet, par 4
Comments: a sweeping dogleg right that roughly follows the bank of the creek.  On your approach shot, you have to decide between taking a more direct route to the basket that brings the creek and some large trees into play or trying to curve your disc sharply from left to right.  This is easily the best hole on this course.  #8 tee is to the left near the gravel road.

Hole #8: 192 feet, par 3
Comments: this hole plays through a row of large trees.  A straight throw will likely hit tree bark, so you have to decide whether to curve your disc right to left through a gap in the row or to curve your disc left to right around the entire row.  Holes #7 and #8 are the only holes on this course with any real strategic value.  #9 tee is behind the basket.

Hole #9: 225 feet, par 3
Comments: a mostly open hole with a single large tree directly between the tee and the basket.  The simplicity of this hole sums up the course.
